EQUINE ASSISTED SERVICES FAQs

What to expect?
I’ve never been around horses before. Can I still benefit from this type of therapy?
Absolutely! No prior knowledge of horses and/or horsemanship is necessary. You’ll have solid coaching every step of the way.
Why horses?
Horses are prey animals and as such are very observant and reactive. They pay close attention to their environment and to everyone in it. They continually watch and listen to everyone they encounter, and then respond. Horses don’t lie; their facial expressions, body language and movement conveys their state of mind.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is commonly used with clients that have a mental health diagnoses. It works for individuals, couples, and families.
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is focused on life skills and works well for people looking for personal growth and development. It’s also used in schools, treatment centers, and for business or non-profit groups for professional development.
I use an ambulatory assistive device like a cane, a walker, or a wheelchair, or a prosthetic. Can I still participate?
Yes. We have experience adapting to the unique needs of both people and horses and we are confident that we can work together to create space in which you feel that your needs and safety are being met. Please contact Cesare with specific concerns so your unique situation can be discussed. Restorative Pathways will also arrange a time to get together at the farm prior to your session to make sure you feel comfortable.
If you'd like to know more about any of the therapies, contact Restorative Pathways to discuss your situation.
